Rental platform for rv’s
Digisure is an Insurance startup creating Trust & Safety Solutions for the Sharing Economy.
Problem:
Can you design the Platform?
Digisure had partnered up with RV Trader (online marketplace and RV dealership support) to provide insurance solutions for Recreational Vehicle (RV) rentals. RV Trader wanted to offer their network of dealers a new business opportunity. They tasked Digisure with building the rental platform and they hired me to do the design.
Solution:
An “Airbnb” for RV’s
A Platform where RV-owners can advertise their vehicles for rental and, where renters can browse vehicles for rent in their style, price-point, and location.

Learning about the RV industry
The RV industry in the United States is significant. It creates $50 billion in economic impact annually and employs over 50,000 people. Across the country there are 7,000 dealerships that manage $23 billion in revenue each year.
Around 40 million people own RV’s and Generation X and Baby Boomers make up the majority of them. A brand new RV can cost anywhere around $20,000-$400,000. RV owners earn around 20% more per year than the average American.
Who are the users?
How do you know your users you haven’t launched your product yet?
When you haven’t launched your product it can be hard to do proper user research. Therefore, I suggested to the founders that we create Proto-Personas so that we would have a representation of the audience Digisure was targeting. Proto-Personas are based on assumptions and secondary research compared to traditional Personas. We identified the three main users of the RV rental platform Renters, Private Owners and Dealerships.
Renters
I learned from my research that those aged between 35-54 are the most likely to own a recreational vehicle in the US. Therefore, it made the most sense to choose a Gen X couple as a potential renter. They prefer to unwind on their vacations and have a strong purchase power.
Dealership
Private Owner
A bit further into the project, we learned that we would focus our attention on the Dealerships instead of the Private Owners. It was a business decision from the customer.
Rental Flow
Renting an RV requires a more complex purchase flow than for example renting a car or a hotel room. In order to complete a rental request and provide an insurance solution the renter has to provide their personal information such as:
Pictures of Driver’s license
Phone number
Name & Phone number of additional drivers
Credit card information
What does it look like?
To guide engineering and set a clear visual language to the platform I created a Style Guide. Based on brand guidelines from RV Trader so it would match seamless with their website.

When I joined Digisure they had some initial designs, although they needed some refinements.
